Why write a blog??

There are two reasons I wanted to write a blog about my wife's battle with Alzheimer’s (and breast cancer).  The first reason is that I wanted a place where friends and family could go to find answers to the question people want to know, but don’t know how to ask.   “How is Marcia doing?”  It’s a fair question that reflects the sincerity people have in wanting to know what’s going on, and that they care how she is doing.  But unlike most medical situations, where illnesses and injuries can be fixed, cured or go away, things don’t get better with Alzheimer’s.  And truthfully, I don’t really know how to answer the question that on the surface doesn’t appear like a hard question.  Her disease is progressing, but she maintains a fabulous attitude, great strength and courage and is still a caring, sweet person.  But she can’t do things she used to do as seamlessly as she used to do them.

Second, my sister-in-law started looking for blogs about Alzheimer’s after Marcia was diagnosed.  She thinks more information can help others.  So I write this more for this reason than the first, but want people who know us to be able to see how things are going, and how inspiring Marcia is.  This blog starts in July 2012, but I go back to the beginning of the journey, in October of 2008.

My good friend Jennifer suggested the blog, set this up for me and walked me through how "to blog".  Thank you Jen!
