Things went pretty well today. Lump was removed, as well as one lymph node from under her right armpit. We got to the hospital early, and surgery started just after noon. The procedure took about an hour and we were told we could go home as early as 5:00. However, Marcia didn’t really wake up until close to 7:00. She really didn’t handle the anesthesia very well. Most likely because she had a polyp removed from her uterus a few weeks ago and has undergone anesthesia twice in such a short period of time. Marcia doesn't feel well at all and has slept a lot, but that's not unusual following this kind of surgery.
Her tumor will need to be analyzed and studied. There is a small chance they might have to go back in and get a little more, but even if they have to do that, her surgeon doesn’t feel there should be any long term problems. Dr. Gleason talked to me after Marcia’s surgery about her prognosis. She doesn’t feel this is something we are going to have to worry about over time.
Many thanks to Christine and Shannon for sending food, and to the Quade’s for taking Ryan off our hands for a few hours.
Marcia is amazingly strong. She isn't slowing down, staying with her schedule. Last weekend she flew to Tennessee with Riley and ran a half marathon with her sister, Cindy and Ali from the YMCA.
Her speech issues have continued to progress and there are signs her memory isn't what it used to be. We are just hoping for slowing of symptoms.
I'm hanging in there, appreciating today as a good day, but educating myself on what's to come. Work and the kids are bright spots I'm lucky and grateful to have. Count your blessings too. You all have been given great gifts. Take the time to appreciate them!
