We didn’t go through the usual battery of tests this time. Dr. Honig talked about possibly increasing the dosage of Aricept, but didn’t think Marcia needed a higher dose or different drug. He did write us a prescription for a Driving evaluation. This has been a dreaded event, but Marcia is willing to go through it. Dr. Honig stressed it’s not whether she can drive, but what would happen if she were in an accident. In this litigious society, we could be sued even if an accident were not her fault. If the evaluation goes well, this would be helpful if she were in an accident someone else caused.
Marcia has given up driving at night and anywhere outside of the familiar roads of Branchburg, Hillsborough and Flemington. And she hasn’t driven anyone outside our immediate family. She knows she can’t do that like she used to. I’ve driven often with Marcia and she is extremely cautious. But I worry about her and really can’t wait to get this over with.
