4/3/11 – AD statistics. Telling the kids?

I've been going through the AD website.  It has a wealth of information that I've only begun to get through.  There's an opening video with numbers that are staggering.  Over 5 million affected in the United States, a new case confirmed every 60 seconds, 6th leading cause of death, and the only one with no cure, known cause or can be slowed.  Other top ten causes of death are decreasing in numbers of cases except AD, which is growing (by a lot) at a cost to the US government of over $100 billion dollars a year...

The site is www.alz.org.  There are many caregiving support groups I found near home and my office that I will try out over the next few months.  Looks like each location meets once a month.

Marcia and I had agreed not to tell the kids until we had a diagnosis.  I had assumed we would do so together.  After church on 3/27, Marcia told the kids while they were waiting for me to come out from church.  I wish I could have been there, and I wish I knew exactly what Marcia said.  Predictably, Riley was upset and wouldn’t talk more about it, and Ryan just got quiet and didn’t say, or ask anything.
